We’re one week away from the UK date of a major Steven Spielberg release that’s also his first with perfect-fit studio Disney. And the noise surrounding The BFG is….somewhat muted. Early, leaked reviews say it’s not. Not bad? Spielberg+Roald Dahl+Disney=Not bad?!!! Has the master lost his touch?

In case you never had a childhood, here’s the synopsis:

A girl named Sophie encounters the Big Friendly Giant who, despite his intimidating appearance, turns out to be a kindhearted soul who is considered an outcast by the other giants because, unlike them, he refuses to eat children.

With a script by the late Melissa Mathison – who also wrote a little indie flick you may have heard of called E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial –  this has to be better than ‘not bad’, surely?

It’s been out in the states for a week already with UK audiences having to bide their time until July 22.
