SONG OF THE WEEK: Guild Wars 2 – The Tengu Wall

Song of the Week is a weekly feature where we show off the best of video game music. From the sweeping orchestra music of Nobuo Uematsu to the more somber tunes of Yoko Shimomura, prepare to have your ears delighted every week.

I started a new character in Guild Wars 2 this weekend. I created a Sylvari (my favorite race in all of video games) and gave him the profession of Thief. I’m currently having a blast running around and doing everything (I’m already level 10!), however this time I’m trying to take it slow, and really enjoy the fleshed out culture of the world.

Despite having numerous level 80 characters the music in Guild Wars 2 captures me everytime I login. Objectively speaking, Guild Wars 2 has some of the greatest music in video games. FACT.

Composed by Jeremy Soule & Julian Soule, the music for Guild Wars 2 suits the game’s incredibly diverse world. Jeremy has been working on the music for the Guild Wars franchise since it’s inception, and it really shows. The wonderful care and passion which Jeremy has for the series echos throughout every song.

The song which I’ve chosen to highlight this is called The Tengu Wall. This piece plays in one of the Sylvari starting areas and perfectly captures the natural feel of the Sylvari as well as the Easten-inspired race of the Tengu. It’s a gently flowing piece of music which takes the listener on a soothing, yet mysterious, journey. It’s one of my favorite pieces of music from Guild Wars 2.

As always, have a listen and don’t be afraid to tell us what you think in the comments below!
