Gibson is back! Whatever your thoughts are on the controversial actor, you can’t deny his screen presence. Ever since he expressed some very unsavoury views, and also went a bit bonkers, his career has taken a nose-dive but it’s the studios that are wary to touch him; the paying public, it seems, are more than happy to have Mel on the big screen.
So he’s back with revenge thriller Blood Father, in which he plays John Link, an ex-con who reunites with his estranged wayward 16-year old daughter to protect her from the drug dealers who are trying to kill her. It does, it has to be said, look a hoot. And showcasing a Mel Gibson trailer shootout has nice parallels to one his greatest hits, although there’s a distinct lack of Patsy Kensit here.
Blood Father opens August 12 in the USA with UK audiences having to wait until October 7.
