Midnight Special, already on release in the States, is the latest film from writer/director Jeff Nichols, the acclaimed driving force behind Mud and Take Shelter. It’s his first venture for a major Hollywood Studio (Warner Bros.), but Nichols promises he has maintained full control. With strong influences from John Carpenter’s Starman, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Midnight Special is the story of Alton, a young boy with special powers. Escaping a cult, and on the run from the law and government agencies who want Alton themselves, father and son embark on an epic road chase.
Starring Nichols favourite Michael Shannon as dad Roy, Jaeden Lieberher as Alton and co-starring Kirstin Dunst, Joel Edgerton and Kylo Ren himself, Adam Driver, Midnight Special hits UK screens April 8.
